Related to what Tim said, the ball can be warped to pretty much wherever you want by moving the square to where you want while the ball is going in a hole, because then it respawns in the square where you moved it. If numbers were randomized after each time it goes in a hole, or if the square and ball were both warped to another location (ball would still be in the square of course), then it would prevent that trick.
